About Richmond, BC
Richmond is a coastal city in the Lower Mainland region of BC. Richmond neighbours Vancouver and Burnaby, New Westminster, and Delta. Richmond is composed of eight neighbourhoods: Sea Island, City Centre, Thompson, West Richmond, Steveston, South Arm, East Richmond, and Hamilton.
Richmond has an oceanic climate, but because it is not as close to the mountains it receives approximately 30% less rain than Vancouver. Richmond rarely sees snow and enjoys mild to warm summer months, while tending to be overcast during cooler months.
What to do when you move to Richmond
There are many experiences you absolutely must check out when you’re in Richmond, and near the top of the list is the Richmond Night Market. You can enjoy a delicious variety of dishes from countries around the world. A few favourite dishes you won’t want to miss include crab meat noodles, BBQ squid, Japanese poutine, Brazilian pastries, Afghan bolani, and more — there are 70 food stalls and 100 retail stalls, so you’ll have plenty to eat and all kinds of goods to browse!
Steveston Village is a lovely fishing village located at the mouth of the Fraser River, and in 2020 it was voted #1 Metro Vancouver neighbourhood — out of 192! Most of the village was declared a heritage zone in 1960 and it retains a warm, nostalgic atmosphere. It’s also a working fishing village, which means that seafood lovers especially won’t want to miss a trip to this spot.
Richmond also features many beautiful cherry blossoms, so if you’re planning a springtime move, you can expect to arrive at an exceptionally stunning time in Vancouver when the flowers are in full bloom.
