Calgary vs. Other Canadian Cities
Calgary moves are more affordable than major markets like Toronto (avg. $1,693) and generally on par with prairie cities like Saskatoon ($1,034) and Winnipeg ($809). Beltline and downtown condo moves tend to be more expensive due to elevator logistics and parking challenges.
Peak season tip: Summer moves (June–August) cost 20–30% more than winter. Avoid Stampede week (early July) when traffic downtown is gridlocked and demand spikes. Best value month? October — mild weather, low demand, and better availability than any summer date. See our month-by-month analysis.

| Monday–Saturday | 7:00 AM – 10:00 PM | 10:00 PM – 7:00 AM |

Parking for Moving Trucks
Snow Route Parking Bans
Calgary uses a priority snow clearing system (different from Edmonton). When a snow ban is declared, vehicles must be removed from marked snow routes (look for blue signs with white snowflakes). Bans typically begin 18 hours after snowfall ends and last up to 72 hours.
Low Clearance Warning: Riverfront Ave Underpass (Centre Street Bridge) — 3.6 m (11 ft 10 in)
Standard moving trucks are 3.9–4.1 m tall. The Riverfront Avenue underpass (beneath Centre Street Bridge) caused 10 of 15 bridge strikes in 2015. The Centre Street Bridge lower deck is even lower at 2.7 m. Also watch for Plus 15 pedestrian walkways downtown — some are posted below 4.0 m. Use Memorial Drive or alternative river crossings instead. See our road construction guide for all low-clearance points.
Condo Moving Checklist
Most Calgary condos — especially in the Beltline, Mission, and downtown — require these steps. For the full breakdown, see our Calgary condo moving rules guide. Call your property management company at least 2 weeks before your move.
Book the freight elevator
Minimum 5 business days ahead — peak months require earlier. Typical slots: 4 hours.
Get a Certificate of Insurance (COI)
Ask your mover to provide one naming the condo corporation as additionally insured.
Pay the damage deposit
Typically $200–$500 refundable. Some buildings also charge a non-refundable move fee.
Confirm loading dock clearance
Some docks only fit 12-foot trucks — arriving with a 14-footer means being turned away.
Take photos of common areas
Document hallways, elevator, and lobby before and after to protect your deposit.
Ask about elevator pads
Some buildings provide them; others require your mover to supply protective padding.
Waste Collection for New Residents
Calgary uses a three-cart system: Blue (recycling), Green (compost), and Black (garbage). Total monthly cost: ~$20.51 (2026 rate), billed through ENMAX. Moving into an existing home? Carts should already be there. Missing carts? Call 311. Look up your collection schedule at calgary.ca/cartschedule. For ENMAX, ATCO Gas, and everything else you need to set up, see our Calgary utilities guide.

Locations Across Canada
In 2025, we completed thousands of moves across Calgary. Our Year in Review tells the story: 85.4% of moves stayed local, 15.5% were 1-bedroom apartments, and move volume grew +2.46% year over year. Calgary is a fast-growing city with unique moving challenges — from downtown condo logistics to construction detours on every major highway. Here is what we have learned.
Calgary added over 100,000 new residents in 2024, driven by strong interprovincial migration and international arrivals. New communities like Seton, Mahogany, Livingston, and Glacier Ridge are expanding rapidly, with thousands of homes under construction. Our fastest-growing communities guide covers infrastructure timelines, school openings, and what to expect when moving to a new-build neighbourhood.
Calgary is also our busiest interprovincial hub. The Calgary–Edmonton corridor is the most active highway in our network, and more Albertans head to British Columbia from Calgary than from any other city we serve. See our Calgary–Edmonton moving guide for route tips and costs.
Calgary has an estimated $18 billion in deferred infrastructure maintenance. In 2026, several of the biggest construction projects in the city are running simultaneously: the $6.2 billion Green Line LRT (16 km, 10 stations in the southeast segment), the $615 million Deerfoot Trail widening, and $22.1 million in Macleod Trail median barriers. Add spring road bans from March to June and you have a city where every move needs route planning.
Our 2026 road construction and detour guide maps every active zone, lists low-clearance points (the Riverfront Ave underpass is only 3.6 m — most moving trucks do not fit), and explains how spring road bans affect scheduling.
A large share of inner-city Calgary moves involve condos or apartments — especially in the Beltline, Mission, and downtown. Most buildings require a freight elevator booking (5+ business days ahead), a Certificate of Insurance naming the condo corporation as additionally insured, a refundable damage deposit ($200 to $500 is typical), and floor protection in hallways and elevators. Our crews arrive with COI ready, elevator pads loaded, and Masonite sheets on hand.
Some loading docks only fit 12-foot trucks — arriving with a 14-footer means being turned away. Our Calgary condo moving rules guide covers every requirement, including elevator booking timelines, damage deposit ranges, and what to ask your property manager.
Summer moves (June through August) cost 20 to 30% more than off-season. Avoid Stampede week (early July) — traffic downtown is gridlocked and demand spikes. October offers the best balance of mild weather, low demand, and good availability. The first and last days of each month are the most congested as hundreds of leases turn over simultaneously.
Our best and worst times to move guide breaks down pricing by month, day of week, and time of day. The short version: book 4 to 6 weeks ahead for summer, and consider fall or winter if you want the best rates.
Calgary is more affordable than major markets like Toronto, and generally on par with other prairie cities. But downtown condo moves run 15 to 25% more due to elevator fees, parking permits, and building access requirements. A Street Use Permit costs $31.50 + GST per day to reserve curb space in the Beltline or downtown.
Our full pricing guide breaks down costs by home size, distance, and add-on services. Every move is different — get a free quote based on your exact address, home size, and move date.
Beltline towers need Street Use Permits and elevator booking. Kensington heritage homes have narrow staircases and tight doorframes. Bridgeland has some of the steepest streets in Calgary — alleys can exceed 30% grade. Cochrane's Big Hill is 3.5 km at 7% grade. And Inglewood is about to see Green Line LRT construction ramp up through 2031.
We move in every Calgary neighbourhood and satellite community — downtown, Beltline, Mission, Bridgeland, Inglewood, Brentwood, Tuscany, Cranston, Mahogany, Seton, Airdrie, and Cochrane. We also handle long-distance moves to Edmonton, Vancouver, and across the prairies. Explore our safest neighbourhoods guide or browse Calgary's greenest neighbourhoods.
14.6% of our Calgary moves are long-distance — from BC, from Edmonton, or from other provinces. If you are relocating to Calgary from elsewhere, we have guides to help you settle in:
Our newcomer guide covers housing, transit, healthcare, and driver's licence transfers. The rental market guide breaks down average rents by neighbourhood, vacancy rates, and application tips. And our utilities guide walks through ENMAX, ATCO Gas, water, internet, and everything else you need to connect.
A portion of every move we complete goes back to the communities we serve. We partner with local charities and community organizations across Calgary — because this city is home, not just where we work. Learn more about how we give back.
